LOCAL SEARCH MARKETING TIPS – 2015

According to Google, an estimated 73 percent of all online activity is related to local searches. Customers turn to local search to learn about the businesses available in their area and evaluate what companies they would like to patronize.   NO Doubt that local search marketing is becoming much more important and if you want your local business to be found when people do searches like “Chicago Dentist”, “Portage Park Painters” or any other local search, your must do a number of things in order to get your site listed.

For Chicago local businesses who want to take advantage of the opportunities presented by these searchers, optimizing your Google MY BUSINESS listing is an excellent way to get started. Yet there are a number of things that need to be done in order for you to get well listed in the Google local search results.   Below are some Local SEO Tips to help achieve this.

 

#1 – Have an address in the town or city that you’re targeting

This is obvious but without an address there, you can’t rank in the local search results for that location, USUALLY. You can, however, still rank in the normal organic search results for local keywords, which are normally displayed below the local business listings.
Make sure your address is listed on every page of your website.

#2- Create and verify your Google+ Local page

After creating your Google+ Local page, verify your address (by entering the PIN code that’s posted to you), website (by linking to your Google+ Local page from your website), and email address (by clicking the link in the email that’s sent to you).

#3- Remove duplicate Google+ Local pages

If your business’s name, address or phone number are listed on more than one Google+ Local page, then delete duplicate listings if you have login details for them, or report them to Google if you don’t have login details for them.

#4- Fully complete your Google+ Local page

Write a 300+ word description of your business (which includes your keywords and services), provide your contact details and opening hours, and upload at least 5 photos and 1 video.

#5- Choose appropriate categories on your Google+ Local page

Choose categories that accurately describe your business and ensure that your category choices state what your business is (e.g. dentist, cosmetic dentist, dental clinic, etc.), rather than the services you provide or the products you sell.

#6- Use a local phone number

List a phone number, with an area code associated to the town or city that you’re targeting, on both your Google+ Local page and on the specific page of your website listed on your Google+ Local page.

#7- Be consistent with your business’s name, address and phone number (NAP=Name,Address, Phone #)

Ensure that the business name, address and phone number(NAP) listed on your Google+ Local page exactly matches the business name, address and phone number on the specific page of your website listed on your Google+ Local page. ALSO make sure that your NAP is consistent on all other business directories.

#8- Add a map of your business’s location to your website

Search for your business’s address on Google Maps, click the ‘Link’ button to get the embed code for the map, and include that code on your website – ideally on the the specific page of your website listed on your Google+ Local page, but if not then on your contact page.

#9- Include your location(Chicago) and keyword(Dentist) on your website landing page

Include the location and primary keyword that you want to rank for in the title, header tag and written content on the specific page of your website listed on your Google+ Local page. Its key to include your Location and Keyword info in all possible locations.

#10 – Create a separate page on your website for each location that you want to target

If you operate in multiple locations, create a new page on your site for each of them, such as Chicago, Naperville, Downers Grove, etc. Then  optimize (title tag, header tag, written content, etc.) each of those pages specifically for that one location.  Then better is to list the locations you serve on your home page, with links to each of the specific location pages.

#11- Write Unique Content for Every Location Page of Your Website

Using near identical text (for example, only changing the town or city name) on multiple pages of your site is more likely to get your whole site penalised than to achieve high rankings for multiple keywords. SO The key is creating a unique page of content for the location your trying to focus on. SO if your trying to focus on a Local Chicago Community of Portage Park, you would then create a page on Portage Park BUT you dont want to just repeat previous. You first want to find some content about Portage Park and combine it with other content about your business.

#12- Get your business listed on 3rd party websites

Get your business’s name, address and phone number (NAP) listed on trustworthy and authoritative websites. These are CITATIONS and the more of these you can get, the better your local SEO rankings might be.  Its best to get citations from similiar type businesses as yours, and also from places in your location. SO if your an Albany Park Roofer, then you want to find business directories in that area for starters.  Ensure that exactly the same name, address and phone number is listed each time.

#13 – Get ratings and reviews on your Google+ Local page and on 3rd party websites

Ask customers to rate your business and leave reviews (mentioning specific services or products) on your Google+ Local page and on 3rd party websites (Yell, Yelp, Scoot, etc.). Ensure that ratings and reviews are spread out over a reasonable timeframe and are not fake.

#14 – Build links to your Google+ Local page and website

Get links to your Google My Business page and website (homepage and the specific page of your website listed on your Google+ Local page) from websites that are relevant in terms of topic and/or location.

#15- Use Schema Code on your SIte to Make Local Info Stand Out

You want to make sure that your reviews stand out in the Google Local search results. Notice how some businesses have their reviews with stars come up in the Local Map results? This is what you want to have happen, your listing stands out then, especially when nobody else has them. This is key.
