WordPress Malware Repair Services
What Should You Do if You have been victim of Hackers? Real Life Example.
Well the first thing is recognizing that you have been hacked. Its easy to just not even notice because a lot of times nothing looks out of ordinary and its not until you see the ominous warning from Google stating that “This site is infected, Run away!”. So thats what happened with one of my clients, they say a warning from Google saying the site was hacked and the sky is falling! So below is how we were able to fix this hacked site, this is like the 100th site Ive fixed!
WAKING UP TO FIND OUT YOUR SITE HAS BEEN INFECTED WITH MALWARE
This is usually how people will find out that they have been hacked and malware is on their website. Usually Google will send you a message in your Google webmaster tools account but not always right away. So its key that you have someone monitor your site to make sure its not fallen into the hands of hackers. It happens every single day and its happening a lot more, SO the key is to be prepared and make sure you have certain plugins setup that will buckle down the hatch and make your site more bulletproof then a normal site. Yet sometimes thats not even enough!
REAL LIFE HACKER / MALWARE SITUATION – Chicago Dentist
I just had a Chicago Dentist have his site hacked this past week and like a lot of people, you can forget about your wordpress site. It might be working well, driving some traffic, making the phone ring but then you stop paying attention to it. So its possible that hackers can take over the site and gain access and usually will create pages on your server and eventually Google will bring up a Search Message saying you have been hacked or you will get a warning message like below from Scurri saying your site has been BLACKLISTED!! WTF, really. Yet you have to take this seriously because if a potential client sees this warning, its a real turn off man!
HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND GET SITE NON BLACKLISTED! – Hire Us!
There are a number of different things you can do in order to fix your site, and sometimes they are just not enough because the site is so badly hacked that it doesn’t even make sense to try and clean it up.
Instead the choice is to just Restore it on a different web host, using a clean backup that hopefully you made awhile back! So here I was able to setup a new hosting account easily enough, I changed the DNS on the domain name and then uploaded the Backup file I had created awhile back. Then I created a new database at new host, I then restored the backup file, added new database info and got site back up as it was BEFORE The hack and dreaded malware infection. SO thats part of the battle here, we still need to let Google know that we cleaned it up and its no longer infected with Malware, as Google is claiming it is within Webmaster Tools. Then you also need to make sure it doesnt happen again and change passwords, etc. Yet the ASAP concern is getting the site back to normal where there are no messages warning people to stay away!
FROM GOOGLE WEBMASTER TOOLS
“Google has received a request to reconsider http://sixcornersfamilydental.com/ for compliance with the Google Webmaster Guidelines. It can take several weeks for your site to be reviewed. After Google reviews your site, you will receive a message indicating the outcome of your reconsideration request.”
FIXING ISSUE AT GOOGLE AND OTHER PLACES
** Now usually this is fixed within 24 hours and in this case it was. I emailed them and I’ve not yet gotten a reply BUT the Security warning message that was coming up in the Google search results is gone, and thats the main thing!
YET the thing here is that #1 it can easily come back, so you first have to make sure you fix whatever issue got you hacked. So change your passwords, update your security plugins and do MORE. Its a lot of work but the bottom line is its worth it in the long run. Then also #2 here is that you might have been blacklisted in other places then Google, so you could still come up as having an infected site if your reported at Mcafee or one of 10 other sites.
Usually its just Google you have to worry about but not always, and so in that case you have to find out where your being reported and say hey we fixed it!
PROBLEM FIXED! -Site Now Malware Free
So once we moved the site and then verified it was Malware free, we contacted Google and they removed the Security Warning. Then all malware scans have come back clean. Then one of the security plugins setup was Wordfence which shows the activity and you can see that people are trying to come to these pages OR infected plugins that were on the OLD server. So this also confirms that these older malware pages are now gone. So now its just a matter of keeping it all gone!
