5 Steps to Content Marketing

Marketing is impossible without content marketing these days. You must have high quality original content for a variety of reasons including your website, blog, social media sites and more.

WHAT IS CONTENT MARKETING?

Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.  Below are the steps involved with content marketing, from researching your topic, to creating your content to promoting it.

STEP #1 – Planning and Researching Your Topic

  • Use Google Keyword Planner to find keywords people are searching for and to use within your blog posts

  • Search TWITTER for popular topics related to your keyword

  • Do a Google search and find other sites that are ranking for your keywords

  • Create a list of the TOP Points you want to get across in your blog post

STEP #2 – WRITING THE ACTUAL CONTENT 

  • Use short paragraphs that break up every 2-3 lines.

  • Use an IMAGE for every 300 words of text

  • Use SUB HEADERS to segment sections and make it easier to read

  • Create a compelling HEADLINE of about 50 characters

  • Make use of bulletpoints and lists

  • Spell Check!

STEP #3 – OPTIMIZING CONTENT FOR SEARCH

  • Aim for 1000-1500 word posts, which is the Google SEO Sweet Spot

  • Put your main keyword in your TITLE

  • Include your keyword in at least one H2 header

  • Place your SEO Keywords in your meta description

STEP #4 – MAKE IT SHAREABLE 

  • Create a custom graphic that shows the title of your blog in an attractive way to increase shares on sites like Pinterest

  • Create an infographic related to your post and then include it in post, and use it in Pinterest

  • Include a video related to your subject and embed within post

  • Use Click to Tweet to include clickable tweets throughtout your blog post

STEP # 5 – PROMOTE YOUR CONTENT 

  • Share your blog post on Facebook and make sure to use optimized image

  • Share on Twitter and Pinterest with cutom titles

  • Pin to relevant shared Pinterest boards to increase exposure

  • Share your blog post on LInkedIN as a status update in personal profile and business page

  • Share post on Google Plus

  • Consider doing Facebook Paid ads or LinkedIn ads for your blog post to promote it more
